Creative Bloggers

Back in January I was contacted by Mary Bennellick, the Editor of the Workbox magazine who asked if I would like to write an article for her. The magazine had just been given a new name ‘Be Creative with Workbox’ and as part of the 150th edition they were planning to introduce a new feature, ‘Creative Bloggers’ – a double page spread focusing on a different blogger in each issue.

It was a lovely opportunity to tell my story, thanks again Mary and the Workbox team -

The 2015 International Design and Make Challenge

Earlier this year I applied to Cambrian Mountains Wool, 2015 International Design and Make Challenge, the latest project to be supported by the Cambrian Mountains Initiative (CMI).
The challenge was for emerging or established textile designer-makers to work with their choice of 1kg of wool tops; 1kg yarn; or up to 3 meters of fabric in plain woven structure to create a unique textile work – whether functional or purely decorative – to help show the versatility and beauty of Cambrian Mountains Wool.

One hundred and twenty eight designers submitted their designs and the 35 were chosen to take on the challenge of which I was one.
I used 1 kg of the wool yarn to explore three dimensional woven forms by combining it with elasticated fibers. The fabrics would create innovative, organic forms which would then be transformed into soft interior prototypes. It was a joy to weave with this super soft 100% Welsh wool, I would highly recommend it and hope to use it again in the future.
The final pieces of work from all 35 designers will be exhibited throughout the UK, schedule dates are below -
21st – 31st May: Hay Festival

18th – 25th September: London Welsh Centre, Gray’s Inn Road, London Setting up the Collection at the London Welsh Centre, coinciding with London Design Festival and the start of London Fashion Week.

26th – 27th September: Llandovery Sheep Festival

30th October – 1st November: Made by Hand Wales, City Hall in the centre of Cardiff.

Stylish Living - Herald Feature

Last year I was contacted by Ann Fotheringham, features writer for The Glasgow Herald who had come across my work on Crafts Scotland. She was interested in writing a feature about me for their Stylish Living Magazine, at first I though someone was playing a joke on me and then realized it was for real. How nice to have someone want to write about your work. After a good 20 minutes on the phone blethering away and answering Ann's questions we were done, the following day a photographer came round to take photos of my loom and some of the work I have been developing. Lots has happened since then so stay posted for some exciting new Warped Textiles news. Thanks again to the Herald for their feature.
